Since the play opened September 24th, 2004 at The Gardner Stages in Hollywood, CA, The Sand Storm: Stories from the Front and playwright, Sean Huze have generated quite a media buzz.  The following lists some of the media done to date.

** A note on press interviews and articles from Sean Huze: To the media, look, I love you guys.  Without your help and interest it would be impossible to get the word out and affect change.  However, inevitably there seem to be inconsistencies no matter how diligent the reporter.  So, to everyone who clicks a link below, please allow me to clarify some of the most frequent errors.

· I am a United States Marine, not a “soldier”.  Soldier is not a generic term for all troops.  It indicates a member of the United States Army.  “Troops” and “service members” would be the appropriate generic terms.  Further, my play tells the stories of nine MARINES and one Navy Medical Corpsman.  The “Fallen Marine” character is representative of all troops, but he is a Marine (the character’s name should be a clue). Little thing to civilians, big thing to a Marine.

· I was a Non-Commissioned Officer (NCO), not an Officer.  When I was discharged my rank was a Corporal.  That would make me an enlisted man, not a member of the O-Club (officers).

· I received my discharge on March 7, 2005.  I was still active duty and on leave during the Fall 2004 run of The Sand Storm.

· I did not return to the States early due to being injured in Nasirya.  I returned with the main body of my Battalion when our tour was complete.  My injury occurred around March 24th, 2003.  We conducted combat operations for an additional 2+ months after that of which I was a part of.  I was however discharged from military service about 6 months prior to when my original contract was up due to the injury.

· Why are there no female Marines in my play?  Common question with an easy answer.  Because the Marine Corps (just like the Army) does not allow women in what are typically the “front line” Military Occupational Specialties.  Additionally, in combat units, such as mine, the support elements are also all male.  The Sand Storm is about Marines in an infantry unit, therefore no female characters since there are no female infantrymen.  Had I served with any, hell, even saw any while I was in Iraq, I would happily add that to the play.  However, in an earnest attempt to accurately portray my personal experience in war, I can’t incorporate something that simply wasn’t a part of that experience.
